ROLE PROFILE: Global Data Platform – Azure Platform Operations Specialist
REPORTS TO: Global Data Platform Owner

OVERVIEW & SCOPE OF ROLE:
Morgan IT is responsible for running the digital transformation for Morgan, implementing a target IT architecture (consisting of several global platforms), that will underpin and future proof the technical landscape supporting Business operations stability and enabling business growth. The importance of the data as part of this journey has been recognised and is being addressed through the implementation of a Global Data Platform.
Morgan IT is seeking a highly-skilled hands-on Azure Data Platform Operations Specialist to oversee and manage our Azure-based infrastructure underpinning our Global Data Platform. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in platform and environment operations, Azure administration, release management, and external infrastructure setup and development. This role requires a proactive individual who can ensure seamless network and connectivity setups, liaise with various stakeholders, and maintain robust private endpoints configurations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & REPONSIBILITIES:
Azure Data Platform Operations Specialist
Platform & Environment Operations: Responsible for hands-on operations and maintenance of the Azure data platform to ensure optimal performance and availability. Implement and manage monitoring systems to detect and resolve issues promptly.
Azure Synapse Administration: Manage Azure resources and subscriptions related to the Data platform, ensuring efficient utilization and cost management. Perform regular updates and patches to maintain system security and performance.
Network & Connectivity Setup: Establish and maintain secure connections to source systems and external data sources, ensuring reliable data flow into the Synapse environment. Configure private endpoints to enhance security and manage the integration of on-premises systems with Azure Synapse.
Connectivity to Source Systems: Establish and maintain connections to various data sources, ensuring data integrity and availability. Working closely with the Global Data Platform to ensure that Data Engineers are able to access source data in an efficient and timely manner. Troubleshoot connectivity issues and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.
Private Endpoint Configuration: Configure and manage private endpoints to ensure secure access to all Azure resources. Monitor and optimise private endpoint performance.
Security & Configuration Management: Implement and enforce security policies and procedures to protect data and resources. Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments. Ensure that all customizations and integrations are functionally understood and that the security design meets Morgan’s standards and policies. Oversee configuration changes and include approved changes in any mapping or transformation logic.
Disaster Recovery & Backup: Develop and implement disaster recovery strategies specific to Azure Synapse to ensure business continuity. Ensure that data backup solutions are in place and tested regularly to prevent data loss.
Performance Tuning: Continuously monitor and fine-tune the performance of data processes within Azure Synapse. Identify and resolve bottlenecks in data movement, transformation, and storage to optimize analytics workloads.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of infrastructure configurations, processes, and procedures and maintaining the Global Data Platform technical playbook. Generate regular reports on system performance, security, and compliance.
Training & Support: Provide training and support to Global Data Platform and other Group IT staff as required on Azure platform functionalities. Develop and update training materials as needed.
Compliance & Governance: Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Implement governance policies to manage Azure resources effectively.
Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest advancements in Synapse and Azure technologies. Identify opportunities for process and system enhancements and drive continuous improvement initiatives for the global data platform.
EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND
Storage Solutions: Knowledge of Azure Storage services including Blob Storage, Azure Files, Azure Disk Storage, and Data Lake Storage. Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions using Azure Backup.
Networking: Proficiency in designing and managing Azure Virtual Networks (VNets), subnets, and peering. Experience with network security groups (NSGs), Azure Firewall, DNS and Load Balancers.
Automation: Strong skills in automating Azure deployments and operations using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Azure Automation.
Monitoring and Management: Familiarity with Azure Monitor and Synapse performance tuning techniques to ensure efficient resource usage and cost management.
Security and Compliance: Experience in implementing security measures in Azure Synapse, including data encryption, role-based access controls, and compliance with industry standards.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer engineering, or a related field of study
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in Azure administration and infrastructure management across a mixture of Enterprise and SME environments
- Experienced in using DevOps methodologies to streamline data deployment and operations.
- Experience using tools for real-time & near-real-time data ingestion (from secure external data storage)
- Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, Synapse Analytics)
- Fully up to speed with Agile development methodologies e.g., DevOps, Scrum (EPICs, Stories, Task, Issues, Bugs)
- Proven experience with Microsoft Power Platform e.g., Power Apps, Logic Apps, Sharepoint
- Specialist with hands-on and responsible for Azure configuration and administration in relation to the Global Data Platform
- Proven experience with release management, network configuration, and connectivity setups.
- Strong understanding of cloud security principles and best practices
