Power Solutions Consultant

Summary

An integral part of the Sales Team, this role will have direct responsibility and accountability for growing Total Power’s acceptance rate as a ‘preferred vendor’ with consulting engineers and end-users in Western Canada. The role will also play an influential part in landing Key Projects (as mutually identified with management) to drive sales growth for the Company. Your primary responsibilities include education, training and design assist for consulting engineers and end users to position Total Power as a preferred vendor on Power Gen projects with the eventual pursuit of same to secure purchase orders. The ability to combine professional sales, technical and customer service expertise will be a key to success in this role. Execution is also a key skill required to meet the needs of the customer and to provide the best customer ‘sales experience’ in the industry.

What You’ll Do – The Role (Responsibilities)

Design Assist

  • Visit and work with engineering consultants in Western Canada to get the Company and its products named and approved in specifications.
  • Establish and execute marketing goals for key Consulting Engineers
  • Aggressively pursue business with ‘Influencer’ accounts so that TPL is an ‘approved’ supplier and named in projects within all divisions of accounts. Pursue a goal of 60% named bid percentage.
  • Assist engineers in writing specifications as required and working with them as a partner on projects.
  • Encourage ‘pre-tender’ opportunities.
  • Respond to and fulfill engineers ‘technical support’ inquiries.
  • Travel the territory to ensure TPL products are being fully marketed - with a goal of being ‘face to face’ 50% of the time.
  • Support all Western branches performing frequent Education and Training (Lunch and Learns, Professional Development Seminars, etc.) for Electrical Engineering firms.

Sales

  • Assist others in the Company with specification interpretation. Work with Company salespeople advising them what products will meet the specification and how to bid the job. Act as the primary contact with consultants for specification interpretation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote TPL products and to facilitate smooth projects.
  • Contact engineers to clarify tendering requirements of sales team.
  • Assist Sales Teams with Technical Support in pursuit of projects.
  • Act as product expert in an effort to support sales and sales team.
  • Assist sales team members with Lunch and Learns for engineering firms.
  • Perform ‘site visits’ as required which could include travel to other branch locations.
  • Actively pursue information which will benefit the sales team – eg. Sales opportunities, names of upcoming projects, successful bidders, pricing feedback, etc.
  • Regularly and accurately update the company’s business and contact tracking tools (eg CRM)
  • Maintain an accurate and complete opportunity log with supporting documentation.

Other tasks and responsibilities as may be required from time to time consistent with the position of Power Solutions Consultant and the job description and duties set out above.

What You Need (Requirements)

  • Minimum 5 years (10+ preferred) successful experience in electrical engineering, electrical contracting/installation, electrical project management, power generation or closely related industries
  • Completion of a related college or university degree.
  • Sound understanding of electrical infrastructure, installation and application of generator sets, diesel and gaseous fuel systems.
  • Understanding of and appreciation for applicable Electrical and Mechanical codes and standards
  • Ability to build strong relationships with customers and potential customers.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, as well as demonstrated effective time management skills, including the ability to multi-task.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office modules, Microsoft Excel, and CRM.
  • Maintain a well-organized, clean work area.
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
  • Strong problem identification and resolution skills.
  • Maintain a valid Driver’s License and a reliable personal vehicle.
  • In the case of a power outage or declared State of Emergency by any level of Government, be available for work.

Working Conditions

  • Travel will be required (50%). A valid passport and ability to enter the US may be required on occasion.
  • Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Lifting or moving up to 40lbs. may be required.

Pay: $70,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
