Our Operations team is expanding! We are looking for a Sales Engineer to support InterTalk’s goals to expand market share, modernize our sales process and elevate customer satisfaction. Our Sales Engineer opportunity is a perfect mix of technical problem solving wizard and communicator extraordinaire! From pre-sales activities and technical support to post-sales implementation and ongoing customer relationships, this position requires a unique combination of technical expertise and interpersonal skills to ensure successful customer outcomes and drive business growth.

This is a hybrid opportunity, with some onsite work based out of our office in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, however we may consider remote first for candidates with a wealth of existing experience and knowledge. Candidates must be able and willing to travel 25-50%.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Sales Engineer will be responsible for the following:
System Design:
- Develop high-level system designs based on customer needs and product capabilities
- Collaborate with product management and engineering teams to ensure feasibility and alignment with technical specifications, ensuring the proposed solution aligns with the technical capabilities and future product roadmaps
- Create clear and concise system diagrams and documentation
Technical Sales Support:
- Provide pre-sales support in collaboration with sales representatives to identify customer needs, assist in qualifying leads, identify new business opportunities and develop effective sales strategies
- Provide technical expertise to address customer requirements and propose tailored solutions, preparing technical proposals, product specifications, and cost estimates that align with customer requirements
- Analyze and respond to RFPs or similar, ensuring accurate and timely submissions, collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather necessary information and develop comprehensive responses
- Lead sales calls as a technical expert with potential and/or existing customers, showcasing the key features and benefits of our solutions and answering customer questions
- Prepare and deliver technical product demonstrations, conduct webinars, workshops, and other technical sessions to educate prospective clients about the product’s functionality and how it aligns with their business objectives
- Provide technical training and support to sales teams
Customer Relationships:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and partners
- Provide technical support and assistance throughout the sales cycle
- Conduct customer training sessions to ensure that users are fully equipped to use the product effectively
- Resolve customer inquiries and issues in a timely and professional manner
- Serve as the technical point of contact for any issues that arise during the implementation phase, ensuring successful product implementation and integration into the client’s environment
Product Documentation:
- Develop and maintain product documentation, including technical data sheets, user manuals, and presentations
- Ensure that documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and easy to understand
- Provide technical support to customers and internal teams using the documentation
Continuous Improvement:
- Assess and drive continuous improvement through documented initiatives within the technical sales processes using insights to refine sales strategies, identifying opportunities for streamlining processes, implementing automation and standardization and best practices to enhance quality, enhance deliveries, increase efficiencies, and reduce costs
- Creating and maintaining related policy and procedure documentation
- Participating in continuous job-specific training and ongoing education
- Provide customer feedback to internal teams to help guide development and product improvements
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with product management, engineering, marketing, and other departments to ensure successful sales execution
- Coordinate with the project management team to ensure a smooth transition from the sales process to implementation
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) within the company, providing training and mentorship to junior sales engineers and other teams
- Track and communicate progress on leads, opportunities and deals, including goal achievements and areas for improvement
- Support technical operations in activities such as maintenance events, system testing, and support events
- Supporting company policies, procedures and operations, including ISO9001 Quality Management System and ISO27001 Information Security Management System

REQUIRED SKILLS
- Deep understanding of Linux kernel internals, file systems, and networking
- Working knowledge of Linux automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, Perl)
- Ability to design, implement, and optimize Linux-based systems for performance and security
- Understanding of network infrastructure and protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, etc.) for SIP-based applications
- Working knowledge with Asterisk PBX systems and their configuration
- Strong understanding of relational and non-relational database concepts
- Strong understanding of technical sales processes and methodologies
- Working knowledge with AWS cloud services and infrastructure
- Working knowledge with configuration and automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, etc.)
- Excellent English presentation skills and communication, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions
- High level of professionalism, attention to detail and strong work ethic
- Excellent interpersonal skills and collaborative work philosophy
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to travel internationally up to 25-50% of the time
EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or extensive related field experience
- A minimum of 4 years proven experience in a sales engineering or technical sales role A minimum of 6 years proven experience in a technical role
- A minimum of 1 year managing and successfully closing complex sales deals
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS
- Experience in the public safety industry
- Knowledge of general SDLC practices
