The Energy & Resources Market Leader – Ontario is a regional leadership role focused on driving the strategy, vision, growth, and performance of the energy & resources market across the province. This position involves ongoing collaboration with Partners across Canada, the U.S., and globally to support GHD’s efforts in the power and energy sector, including renewable energy, bioenergy, clean fuels, hydropower, battery storage, and other energy solutions. The Energy & Resources Market Leader will work closely with the Clients and Markets Lead for Ontario and other Ontario Regional Market Leaders in Environment, Water, Transportation, Property & Buildings, and more. Key collaborators also include the National Future Energy Leader, other National Sector Leaders, Business Group Leaders, Client Relationship Managers, and Service Line Leaders.

This role’s primary responsibilities are to develop and execute the strategic vision for the Energy & Resources Market across Ontario, while also contributing to the broader Canadian Future Energy strategy. With a focus on driving growth in private, public, and federal sectors, the role emphasizes delivering sustainable, profitable outcomes, fostering innovation, and advancing GHD’s energy business. The Energy Market Leader will work on positioning GHD strategically through differentiated value propositions, thought leadership, and strategic partnerships. Leading the development of proposals that support growth and diversification of the energy market, this leader will also ensure alignment with GHD’s core values and energy transition strategy.

Key responsibilities also include fostering cross-market collaboration to execute complex projects, supporting talent development, and leading large-scale energy initiatives as Project Director where needed. This role will include strong client leadership responsibilities for key client accounts in the energy & resources market.

In this dynamic role, you will be involved in:

  • Developing GHD’s Ontario energy business strategy, with a focus on long-term opportunities that align with GHD’s growth aspirations
  • Leading business development efforts for Ontario's energy sector while collaborating with global, national and regional leaders to build a unified approach
  • Understanding energy market trends, with a forward-looking strategy toward future projects and emerging technologies in energy transition.
  • Identify areas of practice within Region, based on client feedback and/or market trends (service lines) that require enhancement to meet present or future opportunities
  • Strengthening relationships with new and existing clients, while expanding GHD’s presence in the energy sector across Ontario, Canada, and the Americas, consistent with GHD’s enterprise strategy and business plans. Providing leadership on key client accounts in the energy & resources market
  • Supporting effective project delivery as a Project Director, ensuring successful outcomes on energy projects
  • Driving innovation by integrating Digital and Advisory services into energy market offerings, with a focus on sustainability and efficiency
  • Collaborating with other Market Leaders and Client Managers across sectors such as Environment, Water, Transportation, and Property & Buildings to win multidisciplinary projects
  • Representing GHD at industry events, conferences, and trade shows, while elevating GHD’s brand in the energy sector
  • Attracting top talent to grow and strengthen the Energy & Resources capabilities at GHD

Performance:

  • Achieve sustainable, profitable growth of the Ontario Energy Market revenue and pipeline, in line with Canadian and global growth strategies
  • Drive diversification of the energy market offerings, including but not limited to clean fuels, renewable energy and energy storage
  • Develop a strong project pipeline using business intelligence tools such as Salesforce
  • Manage risks and opportunities in the energy market, ensuring strategic recruitment and talent development
  • Improve tender/proposal success rates and ensure effective budget management
  • Champion an integrated market approach across GHD’s various service offerings

What you bring to the team:

  • A strong background in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field, with at least 10 years of experience leading energy projects and teams
  • Proven experience in developing and operationalizing successful corporate strategies for the clean energy/energy transition market
  • Deep understanding of Ontario’s energy market, including trends, future challenges, and opportunities across Canada
  • Outstanding leadership and communication skills, with experience managing teams and influencing stakeholders across all levels of the organization
  • Commercial acumen with a strong focus on client relationships, growth, and service excellence
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and thought leadership within the energy sector
  • Experience using Salesforce or similar CRM software is a plus
  • Strong writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly
  • Willingness and ability to travel
