Parks, Recreation, and Tourism is seeking an experienced sales manager with a background in tourism and hospitality that has a passion for providing excellent customer to promote Chesapeake, VA as a premier destination for conventions, meetings, events, sports activities, tours, and tournaments. Some of the primary responsibilities are to increase overnight stays and day visitation; recruit for various events, travel, sports and leisure activities all by utilizing various marketing strategies and networking with business partners and stakeholders. Other specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for tourism partner development, including working with partners to create travel itineraries positioning Chesapeake as an attractive travel destination. Responsible for creating and implementing a communication strategy to keep tourism partners updated on activities happening in Chesapeake.
- Manage and facilitate Chesapeake Restaurant week, as well as other special initiatives such at the Chesapeake Ale Trail.
- Develops and manages an effective sales plan to meet established market goals and the needs of the community and the organization.
- Assists in the development of short and long-term strategic goals that is consistent with the City’s vision, CARE standards, customer service standards, and strategic anchors.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with accommodation and hospitality industry, attractions, museums, sport organizations, unique businesses, and service partners to maximize sell opportunities.
- Provides exceptional customer service to a diverse population that meets the City’s CARES standards.
- Generates leads and implements activities for booking meetings, festivals and entertainment events, special events, sporting events, tours, waterways activities, getaways, leisure activities, visitor stays, conferences, meetings, and conventions.
- Manages data using simpleview data software application, and standard operating procedures. Gathers and maintains information to support periodic and special reports for area of responsibility.
- Prepares creative, high quality bid proposals and presentations.
- Executes key sales initiatives which will include some regional and national travel to trade shows, sales missions, sports conferences, and other related events.
- Assists with planning, executing, participates in, and provides logistical support to city and departmental sponsored functions, activities, and events.
- Performs routine office tasks.
- Assists with budget preparations, management, and analysis for sales and program implementation for related activities.
- Assists with creating, coordinating and implements various forms of marketing and promotional materials, using various formats and media platforms.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requires a bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience in marketing, public relations, or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENTS:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of one year of full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIALCERTIFICATIONSANDLICENSES:
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with theCity Driving Standards.
SPECIALREQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Must be able to comfortably speak in front of groups, and establish and maintain professional relationships with partners, community organizations, and stakeholders.
Must possess excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication, organization, planning, and budget management skills
Must be willing to travel for short durations, work and participate in events, programs, tournaments, and functions outside of routine work schedule.
This position should have a strong knowledge of working with the tour/travel and hobby markets.
