Mount Madonna is a center for learning that offers practices for living for the sincere seekers, thought leaders, retreat goers, teachers and students who desire an experience at the source. Since 1978, we have been honored to host both luminaries and practitioners in spiritual and religious traditions, artistic endeavors, social justice, and conscious business, among many others. Our residential community of practice and activities have been inspired by the yoga teachings and example of master yogi, Baba Hari Dass.

POSITION: Full-time Operations Manager

JOB LOCATION: Mount Madonna Center - 445 Summit Road, Watsonville, CA, 95076

Reports to: Operations Director

JOB SUMMARY:

We have an immediate opening for an Operations Manager, who will serve in a leadership role for all of the Mount Madonna Center’s direct operations. The Operations team is a dynamic, foundational part of the Center, and the Operations Manager serves as both a practical, as well as an inspirational, leader for Center’s staff. This position has great potential for growth within the Center.

The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills, is self-directed, extremely well organized, and loves to problem-solve, coordinate, and create sustainable systems. This position requires a wealth of creativity and adaptability, as well as strong interpersonal skills. The Center’s staffing structure is multifaceted, and includes residential and non-residential employees, as well as volunteers, so the ideal candidate will be able to work successfully within a dynamic environment. Mount Madonna Center is in a period of transition and immense growth - we are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a startup mentality and large capacity to bring our mission forward.

Responsibilities of this position are, (however not limited to), the following:

  • Coordinating with Leadership and the Operations Director:
  • This position works closely with our Human Resources Department (HRD), Community Well-being, Finance, and those leading the largest service areas of Mount Madonna.
  • Supporting and developing direct reports:
  • Provides support for staff in the form of best practices, navigating internal processes, and finding needed resources.
  • Cross-functional coordination:
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all service areas and departments.
  • Ensures that standards and protocols across service areas are met.
  • Collaborates with HRD on staff recruitment and assessment.
  • Financial Responsibilities:
  • Management oversight of the retail operations.
  • On the ground support and administrative support
  • Schedule Oversight
  • Supporting Ops Coordinator(s) in creating, printing, posting, and communicating the weekly staff schedule. Ensuring it is completed on time and is accurate.
  • Work with Ops Coordinator(s) to address scheduling conflicts between areas
  • Oversight of Onboarding Scheduling
  • Assess needs and act to meet and balance competing area needs
  • Administrative Oversight & Support
  • Keeping Livelihood Agreement spreadsheet updated (or creating a new system to track information)
  • Following up with individuals and/or HRD if schedule is out of sync with agreement
  • Ensure implementation of consistent standards and protocols across service areas
  • Event Coordination with the Program Coordinator & Temple Staff

Key skills, experience, and requirements:

  • Computer skills: Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, and Word. Familiarity with Monday.com is a plus. The ability to adapt to custom software.
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written), as well as the ability to negotiate.
  • Time Management & Organization skills: Exceptional attention to detail and organization skills. Excellent project management skills, including the ability to effectively manage numerous concurrent projects. Hands-on approach to project management with a strong bias for action.
  • Interpersonal skills: Ability to mentor, support, and develop current staff, as well as the ability to interview incoming staff.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with operations, logistics, account management or related experience in a fast-paced environment.

JOB TYPE: Full-time Position at 35 hours/week. Please note that hours may fluctuate from week to week and the ability to work on Saturdays and Sundays is required.

RATE OF PAY: $22-25/hr, depending on experience.

Residential Position Available:

This position offers the opportunity to reside in a yoga community in beautiful natural surroundings. We prefer to hire a residential staff member, but are accepting all applications. Residential housing and all meals are included in an affordable monthly fee. Those interested in joining our multigenerational residential community would be open to living in an intentional yoga community and engaging with others in a positive way. We ask everyone to abide by the vegetarian guidelines while on the property. More details about the residential agreements will be provided during the interview.
