Project Estimator
Company Overview: Potomac Testing, a TechPro Power Group company, has been a leading provider of comprehensive low, medium, and high voltage electrical equipment services since 1985. The company offers a range of services, including NETA acceptance and maintenance testing, planned and emergency field services, power quality and engineering studies, and retrofitting and refurbishment of electrical equipment.
Position Type: Full-Time
Location: Jeffersonville, OH or Carmel, IN
Comp: 85k – 125k, with additional incentives
SUMMARY:
The Project Estimator is responsible for pricing, coordinating activities needed to finalize quoting, and interpreting electrical specifications and drawing requirements for project quotations to ensure the highest percentage of profit. Ideally, they would also have some project management experience. A successful candidate will also drive process excellence to ensure correct costs and product match the specified project requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Convert written specifications and construction drawings into submittals for customer requests for quotes,including electrical testing, maintenance, engineering, and new installation requests.
- Determine most cost-effective options to meet project specifications.
- Receiving requests and responding to inquiries from customer
- Meets with vendors/suppliers to build strong and profitable relationships that benefit the company and gives vendors/suppliers incentive to drive more opportunities.
- Communicates with suppliers to discuss material specifications, clarifies, and confirms bill of materials, negotiates pricing, and identifies alternatives for special or custom orders.
- Maintain proper files for product quotes within the company quotations program.
- Supervises proposal negotiations with both suppliers and customers.
- Gathers all necessary information including and not limited to labor, data-com, switchgear, transformer, instrument, apparatus, and lighting take-offs for preparing customer quotations.
- Coordinates receipt of required information for preparation of final quotation submittal.
- Communicates with customers to resolve problems and requests for information with projects during bidding process.
- Meet all Quotation Submittal Deadlines.
- Follows-up on open and outstanding quotations to determine status.
- Communicates with account representatives, account executives, and inside sales reps to ensure quotes and resulting orders are complete.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Strong knowledge of electrical construction, electrical products, power, instrumentation, and controls, and understanding of electrical testing methods and procedures.
- Exceptional communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills
- Strong written communication skills.
- Strong initiative and ability to handle increasing responsibility over time.
- Excellent time management/organizational skills with ability to meet important deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certified preferred and 5 years’ experience in the electrical industry.
- Experience and proven track record with project estimating is a strong plus.
- Gathers all necessary information including and not limited to labor, data-com, switchgear, transformer, instrument, apparatus, and lighting take-offs for preparing customer quotations.
Job Classification: Full-time, exempt.
