Position Summary:
The Energy Solutions Applications and Sales Engineer is responsible for driving the design, application, and sales of energy management solutions and development of sustainable energy projects for customers across various industries. This role requires both technical expertise in energy management practices and the ability to adapt to new sustainable energy technologies. This Sales Engineer will bridge the gap between engineering design, energy management, and be responsible for driving business development, managing the sales cycle, and providing post-sales support. This position involves close collaboration with energy specialists, utility companies, engineering and building automation teams to ensure that proposed solutions meet customer energy solutions’ expectations, by conducting energy audits, analyzing energy consumption patterns, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing measures that reduce energy costs and environmental impact, while ensuring measures align with company goals and regulatory requirements. The Sales Engineer is responsible for identifying, securing, and managing energy rebates, incentives, and grants for customers. This role involves researching and applying for financial incentives from government programs, utilities, and other organizations that promote energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainability projects ensuring that customers receive all eligible rebates and incentives.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Consultation & Solution Design:
- Perform energy audits and assessments of client facilities to identify inefficiencies, consumption patterns, and opportunities for energy optimization.
- Design and propose customized energy solutions, including energy management systems (EMS), renewable energy integration, and efficiency upgrades for HVAC, lighting, and building automation systems.
- Collaborate with clients to define energy savings goals, financial targets, and sustainability objectives, ensuring solutions meet their technical and operational needs.
- Develop comprehensive proposals, technical drawings, and system specifications that detail the energy solutions and projected outcomes (e.g., cost savings, payback periods, and ROI)
2. Sales & Business Development:
- Lead the technical sales process by identifying client needs and offering solutions that meet energy efficiency and sustainability goals.
- Generate leads and new business opportunities by building relationships with potential clients, industry partners, and stakeholders.
- Present and demonstrate energy products, technologies, and services to clients, explaining their benefits, energy savings, and return on investment (ROI).
- Work with the sales and estimating team to prepare quotes, proposals, and cost estimates that meet client specifications and budget requirements.
- Collaborate with marketing and business development teams to create tailored presentations and promotional materials for energy solutions.
3. Proposal Development & Cost Estimation:
- Create detailed technical and financial proposals, including energy savings projections, payback analysis, and feasibility studies.
- Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, operations, finance) to ensure accurate cost estimates and alignment with project delivery capabilities.
- Ensure that proposals address all client requirements and regulatory standards, offering a clear pathway to energy and cost reductions.
4. Technical Support:
- Assist the project management team with implementation of energy solutions from initial design through commissioning, helping ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Provide technical guidance during the installation, commissioning, and testing phases to ensure that energy systems perform as designed.
- Coordinate with internal engineering and project teams to troubleshoot issues that arise during installation and ensure the quality of the solution.
5. Market & Product Knowledge:
- Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in energy management and renewable energy.
- Maintain deep product knowledge of the company’s energy solutions and those of competitors.
- Participate in industry conferences, workshops, and training sessions to stay ahead of new developments and regulations in the energy sector.
6. Post-Sales Support & Client Training:
- Provide ongoing technical support after the sale to ensure systems are properly maintained and continue to deliver expected energy savings.
- Train clients on the operation and optimization of energy management systems, renewable energy technologies, and other installed equipment.
- Conduct follow-up visits or remote consultations to ensure the system’s
- performance and to offer upgrades or additional services as needed.
7. Incentive & Rebate Program Identification:
- Research and maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local energy rebate and incentive programs, including grants, tax credits, and utility rebates.
- Identify relevant programs for specific energy efficiency projects, renewable energy installations, or sustainability initiatives.
Stay informed about changes in energy policy, rebate structures, and incentive eligibility criteria.
8. Rebate & Incentive Application Process:
- Prepare and submit applications for rebates, grants, and incentives on behalf of clients, ensuring all necessary documentation is accurate and complete.
- Coordinate with utility companies, government agencies, and rebate program administrators to track application statuses and ensure compliance with program requirements.
- Monitor deadlines for applications and submissions, ensuring timely filing to avoid missed opportunities.
- Manage the post-application process, including follow-up with agencies to ensure approval and disbursement of funds.
9. Financial Analysis & ROI Calculations:
- Collaborate with the energy solutions and engineering teams to determine project eligibility for specific rebates and incentives.
- Conduct financial analysis to estimate the impact of rebates and incentives on overall project costs and ROI for clients.
- Provide clients with clear breakdowns of potential savings from rebates and incentives, including how they reduce upfront capital expenditures and improve payback periods.
- Generate detailed financial reports that highlight the economic benefits of available rebates and incentives.
10. Outreach & Networking:
- Build and maintain relationships with utility companies, government agencies, and other organizations that offer energy rebates and incentives.
- Attend industry events, conferences, and webinars to stay informed about new rebate programs and energy efficiency trends.

Skills and Qualifications:
1. Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field.
o Professional certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), LEED accreditation, or similar qualifications are preferred.
2. Experience:
o 3-7 years of experience in energy solutions, technical sales, or application engineering.
o Proven track record in designing and selling energy-efficient systems such as HVAC controls, lighting, renewable energy solutions, and building automation systems (BAS).
o Experience with energy auditing, energy modeling, and cost-benefit analysis.
3. Technical Expertise:
o Strong understanding of energy management systems (EMS), renewable energy technologies (solar, wind, energy storage), and energy-efficient solutions.
o Knowledge of energy efficiency regulations, green building standards, and sustainability practices.
o Familiarity with energy monitoring software and tools for energy data analysis.
4. Sales Skills:
o Demonstrated ability to manage the sales cycle, from lead generation to deal closure.
o Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
o Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and internal teams.
5. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills:
o Strong analytical abilities to assess energy usage patterns and recommend appropriate solutions.
o Critical thinking skills to solve complex technical issues and ensure successful project delivery.
o Financial analysis skills to calculate ROI, payback periods, and energy savings for proposed solutions.
