Job purpose
The main function of the AV Sales Engineer is to provide presales support by acting as a technical consultant to the sales force, generating functional system descriptions, system flow diagrams, and equipment lists for estimation and proposal purposes. An AV Sales Engineer also acts as an internal resource to the post sales Engineering team for project related questions.
Duties and responsibilities
- Documentation:
- Ability to comprehend and translate customer needs into functional system designs
- Identify cabling, mounts, and other miscellaneous materials needed for a functional system
- Develop engineering drawings, acoustical modeling, or other data as required
- Meetings:
- Meet with vendors / manufacturers to help evaluate product as requested
- Assist in facilitating customer demos of technology and equipment
- Attend needs analysis / scope meetings with Systems Consultants and clients
- Attend site visits and provide support to Systems Consultants on technical topics with client
- Attend Release to Ops meetings and hand off pertinent project information to Project Engineer
- Internal Collaboration:
- Assist Systems Consultants with developing budgets and proposals
- Assist Estimation with labor and material estimates
- Assist Systems Consultants in documenting needs analysis / scope and maintaining updates until hand off to Project Engineer
- Act as a resource to Systems Consultants and Estimators for technical design questions
- Other duties assigned as needed
Qualifications
- Education and/or experience
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or four years related experience and/or training; of equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Skills, knowledge, and abilities
- Familiar with computer operations.
- Understands electronic theory and have strong troubleshooting skills.
- Advanced knowledge in reading and interpreting blueprints and project specifications.
- Ability to comprehend, develop, and explain functional scopes of work.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects under time constraints.
- Ability to work in a team environment and deal effectively with people.
- Fluency in the following computer software:
- Microsoft Office
- Common unified communication platforms (MS Teams, Zoom, WebEx etc.)
- System Integration Software/D-tools/Visio
- Bluebeam
- Must be an organized self-starter and have a willingness to follow processes. Strong ability to formulate plans and projections and effectively communicate those plans to others both internal and external is necessary.
- Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before small groups of employees and one-on-one to customers.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers and managers. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.
- Ability to deal with and interpret nonverbal symbolism (formulas, graphs, blueprints, etc.)
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence.
Working conditions
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
- The noise level in the work environment is low to loud.
