Job Description

The Gift Shop Sales Associate is responsible for assisting in administrative and merchandising work in the Friends of MacArthur Beach State Park Gift Shop and kayak rental fleet.

· Assists management in the efficient operation of a quality retail sales operation and kayak rental fleet

· Must demonstrate computer technical skills

· Must have the ability to work with a volunteer staff

· Responsible for cash handling, membership and donation processing

· Collaborates with Gift Shop leadership to meet sales goals and overall organization and improvements to Gift Shop

Essential Functions

Employee must be able to:

Stand for periods of 8 hours; be able to lift up to 30 lbs., communicate both verbally in writing and in English (in person and using phone); must be able to navigate uneven terrain, walking on sand, trails and over roots; navigate ladders and/or step stools; must be able to bend, crouch, and kneel for less than 1 hour at a time. Have near visual acuity, far visual acuity, and peripheral vision; maintain visual and auditory supervision of program participants at a range of 50 feet; work on a computer including typing and navigating with a mouse for up to 8 hours at a time; consistently work in an outdoor setting with extreme weather conditions including but not limited to: hot, sunny, humid, rainy, and/or cold days. Employee must know, respect, and follow safety policies and procedures related to this field of work and ensure that volunteers follow same. Employee frequently communicates with students who have physical, mental, language, and behavioral issues and must be able to meet the learning needs of all students.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Gift Shop Sales Associate will be responsible for:

  • Communicating regularly with Store Management on all operational activities
  • Ensuring high level of customer service is being delivered throughout day
  • Efficiently process customer transactions
  • Handling cash, credit card transactions; membership and donation processing
  • Perform daily tasks including stocking sales floor, merchandising, display updates, inventory management and general cleaning
  • Assisting with quality control of kayak rental program which includes rentals to guests; and caring for kayak fleet and related equipment

Physical Gift Shop:
With supervision of Sales Manager:

  • Provide excellent customer service to the public
  • Ensure products are displayed properly on sales floor and that goods are replaced, pulled, and rotated on a regular basis.
  • Maintaining a clean store at all times
  • Assisting with opening and closing physical Gift Shop during regular operating hours and as needed for special events
  • Ensuring accurate weather warnings are displayed and communicated for guest safety

Performs other related duties as assigned; Employment is contingent on a 90-day probation period. Either Saturday or Sunday will be required in work week. Schedule subject to change.

Required Skills/Abilities

· High School diploma or equivalent

· Retail Sales experience: 1 year

· Customer Service experience: 1 year

· Point of Sale (POS) experience a plus, basic computer skills required

· Must be available to work on Saturdays and Sundays from open to close. Additional hours may also be available during the week if desired and/or needed

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16 – 34 per week

Shift:

  • 8 hour shift

Weekly day range:

  • Weekends as needed

Work Location: In person
