Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven “Account Manager – Recycling” to join our team at ThriftBooks. The Account Manager will play a pivotal role in identifying and generating leads, proactively prospecting, and selling recycling materials generated by ThriftBooks. This individual will work closely with our processing centers to optimize processes, reduce disposal costs, and promote sustainable recycling practices. The Account Manager will also be responsible for building and maintaining long-term relationships with existing suppliers to achieve targeted sales and margin goals.

The ideal candidate will be energetic, self-motivated, and a team player. Must be comfortable making cold calls and meeting with potential clients face to face. Knowledge of the recycling industry specifically with cardboard, metals, papers, plastics, and recycling supplier base coupled with experience in the ecommerce operations is an advantage, but not required. Understanding or experience with commodity pricing, manufacturing, or plant environments, is also a plus.

This is a national position. Location must be in one of the following states: AZ, TX, or WA. The role will be remote but will include approximately 50% travel.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Manage and develop new suppliers while maintaining existing sales within the assigned territory, requiring national travel.
  • Evaluate suppliers' capacity to handle and process recycled materials generated by ThriftBooks through on-site audits and analytical processes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Accounting, Innovations, and Finance departments to ensure seamless communication and execution.
  • Proactively reach out to potential suppliers, follow up, and negotiate solutions-based proposals to ensure efficient and cost-effective movement of materials from processing centers.
  • Utilize a consultative selling approach to propose solutions that match prospective suppliers with the most suitable recycling streams by location, improving their experience and profitability.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of all processing centers' capabilities and leverage other company resources to provide value-added services.
  • Stay updated on various types and grades of recyclable materials and the competitive market environment within the industry.
  • Coordinate transportation and movement of materials to suppliers.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with other departments, employees, and customers.
  • Develop sales reports, maintain accurate contact information, and review monthly sales reports with management to establish goals and objectives.
  • Attend industry events, conferences, and seminars as needed to build a network and gain insight into the market direction.

WHAT EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION YOU WILL NEED:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in Manufacturing related fields, required
  • 3+ years’ sales experience, preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred
  • Strong team-oriented mindset with excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working with diverse personalities.
  • Effective communication and strong presentation skills.
  • Deadline-driven, with a strong sense of urgency and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Able to professionally represent the company while making cold calls and meeting with potential clients in person.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a positive attitude and passion for delivering excellent account service.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities, quick thinking, and creativity in finding solutions.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Critical thinking and effective negotiation skills.
  • Ability to learn the recycling industry, supply chain concepts, and commodity pricing.

BASE SALARY:

$60,000 - $70,000/yr. This range reflects the good-faith hiring base salary range for this position. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications such as skills, experience, and education/training.
