Job Description

About us

Blackwater Industrial LLC is a small business in Spanish Fork, UT. We are professional and agile. We primarily offer solutions to customers in the world of "soft-materials" manufacturing. This is primarliy non-metal cutting and converting machinery. We are currently mainly invovled in "die-cutting" processes but are currently rebranding and branching out into thermoforming machinery, knife-cutting tables, embossing machines, punching/perforating machines, and other types of die cutting that involve more complicated in-line solutions such as vision or pick-and-place.

Our work environment includes:

  • Wellness programs

Overview:

This ideal candidate will partner with the sales team to discuss potential solutions for each customer, and follow-up with prospective clients. Once they discover the client's needs, they will be responsible for discussing all details of the project with our building team, working with our technicians to do the final quality control and pass-off on the machine. The ideal candidate should be able to clearly articulate highly technical concepts to all prospective clients in simple and complex terms.

Core Responsibilities:

Essentially my responsibilities sans the COO/Executive functions. Which is to your benefit.

Currently, my role requires that I manage about 20-25 active machine projects in all stages. Whether it's getting a signoff from the customer engineering department or installing it on their production floor, it needs to be managed. I'm looking to pass about 10 of these projects to you, along with managing any new projects that come in from sales with established solutions. Otherwise, we'll need to sit and figure out a solution. Here is what managing those projects looks like:

  • Engage with the Sales Team to grasp customer requirements and offer technical insights during the initial discussions.
  • Work on formulating initial project scopes and design concepts, ensuring they align with customer expectations and are feasible operationally. Remember, this effort is collaborative, and you'll have my support throughout if you need it. Being able to turn around a rough draft and quote in a few days is key to sorting customers and organizing your efforts.
  • Interface with our Production Team to adapt design concepts into viable engineering solutions, mindful of our manufacturing capabilities and budget constraints.
  • Generate/adapt CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical specifications for bespoke machinery projects. The goal is always to box solutions and put them on the website as a standard option.
  • Serve as the main technical point of contact for clients across the project lifecycle, ensuring clear communication and addressing any technical queries.
  • Partner with technicians to create perform tests and refine designs based on the feedback and performance data. Embrace the 'build and break' philosophy – early failures lead to better solutions.
  • Verify that all designs comply with quality assurance standards, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices. Willingness/ability to thumb through UL, NEC, ANSI, and other relevant standards is essential to ensure our designs are up to spec. I don't care if you use GPT to chase issues but you need to validate/verify everything and document it. Call the AHJ for the customer. Pick the brains of the Keyence reps.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and documentation effectively, juggling 5-10 machine projects simultaneously. Organizational skills and diligent note-taking are crucial. We use Clickup. You'll need to also. Tedious 10-minute clerical work after a customer meeting is a game changer for managing a project even though it feels beaurocratic. Take the time to record details or you'll drown.
  • Keep up-to-date with the trends, technologies, and best practices in the field of industrial machinery and systems engineering. We often visit suppliers and customers for learning opportunities, requiring an open-minded approach to problem-solving.
  • Sometimes this means working in the evening to make sure details are hammered out clearly. You gotta be okay with a few hours of work from home a week to make sure things are handled smoothly. Some legwork, live with the production team, will cut days/weeks off a design cycle and get the customer their machine earlier.

Qualifications:

  • Proven capability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines is critical. I care about your ability to spin all these plates at the same time more than any credentials (provided you can/will learn).
  • Background in Engineering, or relevant experience in a similar role or as a technician.
  • An intuitive grasp of manufacturing processes, materials, and quality standards.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude, with a focus on detail and creative solutions.
  • Capability to document everything with attention to detail and regular updating.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ensuring smooth interactions across departments. It's important to communicate in a way that keeps everyone on board and feeling valued.
  • Openness to domestic travel as dictated by project demands. This is rotated with me and the other techs so it’s not often and usually a week maximum for install/training.
  • Willingness to stretch to get a project across the finish line. This means checking in regularly with the team and suppliers. This means being proactive in identifying potential roadblocks and working collaboratively to find solutions, ensuring the project stays on track and meets its deadlines.

What We Offer:

  • A starting salary of $70K, with growth through project bonuses (paid in the next paycheck for exceptional work) and year-end bonuses for outstanding contributions. We don’t put a ceiling over you if you’re doing phenomenal work. There’s no raise cap we bake into your job. Demonstrated value is met with commensurate compensation.
  • Benefits package including health insurance for you and dependents where 100% of your deductible is covered and 50% of your dependent(s) is/are covered, 401(k), HSA, and fixed reimbursements for phone, gym, and medical expenses not covered by insurance (up to $150/mo).
  • Extensive opportunities for professional growth and development. Whether you're interested in welding, PLCs, or vision systems, we offer hands-on opportunities to develop these skills. Trainings (covered by the company) may include in-person classes, seminars, certifications, or online courses. If there's a skill you're interested in that we don't currently provide training for, let's chat and see if we can incorporate it.
  • 14 days of PTO at the beginning of the year or the remaining available balance from your hire date.
  • Flexible scheduling options to accommodate your needs, with the potential for hybrid work or extended weekends, as long as your weekly commitments are met. If you hit 40 and your bases are covered, so long as the other team members know your availability, we can work the schedule some. However in-person will be required the majority of the time so you can properly interface with the team, answer sales/customer questions, and put your hands in some hydraulic oil to learn something.
  • Snacks. Most importantly, we’ll stock the breakroom with your preferred snacks/food/drinks (within reason)

Application Process:

If any of that sounds compelling, send an email to Jake@bwi-mfg.com with your resume and a brief note about your thoughts on the role and why you'd be a great match. I’ll give you a call and we can set a time to meet in Spanish Fork to review the company and machines and further the discussion.

We offer competitive compensation packages including base salary plus commission. Additionally, we provide opportunities for professional growth and development. If you are passionate about technology sales and enjoy working in a dynamic environment, we would love to hear from you.

Note: Please do not include any contact information such as email or phone number.
