ADESA/OPENLANE Vancouver is one of ADESA/OPENLANE Canada's 14 wholesale vehicle auctions that are located across Canada, coast to coast and the employer of choice in the Canadian automotive remarketing industry.
Reporting to the Lot Operations Supervisor or designated manager, the lot assistant will coordinating vehicle inventory. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working at a dealership or similar organization, controlling vehicle inventory, and preparing vehicles for transport.
This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental working conditions, including temperature changes, outside weather conditions, slightly elevated ambient noise levels, minor potential physical hazards, such as electrical current, moving mechanical parts, exposure to hot equipment and cleaning and pesticide chemicals; and minor atmospheric conditions affecting skin or respiratory systems, such as fumes, odors and dusts associated with internal and external service station/convenience food and petroleum dispensing operations.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure vehicles are ready for auction and ensuring vehicles are in working order (i.e. boosting, adding gas, attending to lock outs, preparing for towing, and filling tires)
  • Operate a variety of motor vehicles safely, in accordance with our driver safety procedures
  • Accurately record any services provided (fuel, tow, etc) to ensure accurate billing
  • Moving, marking, flagging, and/or staging vehicles as instructed
  • Photograph vehicles post-reconditioning services
  • Maintain an organized and orderly lot to ensure efficient operations, including completing regular inventory scans
  • Provides customer service by assisting customers or other internal departments in retrieving their vehicles
  • Assist with vehicle stock in & check out process
  • Manual snow removal as required (clearing vehicles of snow, light shoveling in yard)
  • May be required to operate snow removal equipment (plow truck, bobcat, loader)
  • May be required to tow vehicles
  • Operate motor vehicles in a safe and efficient manner:
  • Always operate motor vehicles safely and practice conservative, cautious and courteous driving habits.
  • Perform various duties such as coordinating lot drivers to for moving, staging and parking vehicles in the designated lot area in support of contract or project activities. As directed from the Lead Account Coordinator, work with lot drivers to move vehicles from one spot on the auction lot to another to maintain an efficient flow of vehicles throughout the auction process.
  • Prepare vehicles to move through our remarketing system, including staging vehicles for reconditioning shops or transportation Efficiently move vehicles from the finish line to the designated parking spot for the upcoming sale using alphanumeric ordering.
  • Scan parked vehicles utilizing various systems to maintain accurate inventory and record movement of vehicles on the lot.
  • Promptly notify the Lot Operations Supervisor, of all driving related incidents and if anything occurs, which may potentially jeopardize the ability to physically or legally operate a motor vehicle.
  • Practice proper loss prevention and reaction procedures in accordance with policy. Report all incidents properly and immediately to designated lead, supervisor or people manager.
  • Maintain work area and conditions to ensure safe environment for all employees and customers. Respond to and follow proper company policy procedures involving accidents (customer or employee), injuries, and loss or damage to any property. Report all incidents to designated lead, supervisor or people manager.
  • Maintain and assure good operating condition of all equipment and facilities. Advise designated lead, supervisor or people manager of all breakdowns and maintenance needs immediately.
  • Practice and promote teamwork at all times. Set a good personal example of attitude and performance.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the designated lead, supervisor or people manager.
Educational & Experience Requirements
  • Effective communication skills required.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions is required.
  • Must be qualified to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to drive both standard and automatic transmissions preferred.
  • Ability to read English and/or comprehend alphanumeric ordering and motor vehicle traffic signs required.
  • Must be competent with basic computer and the utilization of smartphone applications.
  • Qualified/Experienced in operation of plow truck, bobcat, loader, and/ or tow truck is a definite asset
  • Must submit to and pass controlled substance investigation and testing in accordance with company policy. Must not be under the influence of any condition or substance that could distract or impair the ability to safely and efficiently operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must not have a motor vehicle record or criminal record that does not meet the minimum standards set by company policy.
  • High School Diploma or GED required with some college preferred.
  • Criminal Record Check and Driver’s Abstract completed and cleared by ADESA/OPENLANE is mandatory
