Job Description
Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. Reporting to the Vice President of US HIV Sales & Marketing, the Head of Sales & Community will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive sales strategy in alignment with Franchise and Brand commercial strategies and overall business objectives. The role will drive execution excellence to achieve revenue and market share targets while managing OPEX and budgets. This leader will be a core member of the Commercial HIV Leadership Team and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless customer experience.
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
  • In collaboration with the VP of U.S. HIV, develop the overarching sales strategy and clearly communicate the vision to motivate and inspire leaders and team members of field functions.
  • Drive competitive fitness and accountability across the areas of Treatment and Prevention sales and the Community Liaison team, maintaining a strong performance-driven culture.
  • Develop and implement strategic programs to ensure the achievement of sales and revenue targets in a competitive and growing HIV market.
  • Shape and prepare the market for impactful launch(s), building capabilities within field-based teams for ongoing success.
  • Stay abreast of regional, market, and competitive trends, identify opportunities and risks, and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Identify and address overarching barriers that limit patient access and growth of our products and provide guidance and strategic recommendations to leadership.
  • Monitor and assess sales performance metrics, proactively addressing gaps or challenges in revenue, market share, and sales force effectiveness.
  • Ensure effectiveness of operating field structures and key relationships within and outside Gilead, fostering a cohesive field organization and culture across different US regions.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and CL&D to enhance people development, focusing on effective leadership through accountable people leaders. Implement actionable development plans and cultivate a strong talent pipeline for critical positions.
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Commercial HIV and the analytics team to set the IC strategy and manage IC goals for treatment, prevention, and community. Establish key account management and effectively engage with stakeholders and partners in the field.
  • Led key meetings for field-based functions, such as RD, national, and mid-year meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures.
Basic Qualifications: ED version below
Bachelor's Degree and Fourteen Years’ Experience
OR
Masters' Degree and Twelve Years’ Experience
OR
PhD and Twelve Years’ Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Recognized experience as leader of leaders, bringing teams together to deliver on joint goals.
  • Proficient in spearheading organizational change, fostering team enthusiasm, motivating individuals, and nurturing team growth. Candidates should demonstrate outstanding interpersonal abilities to guide, engage with, concentrate on, manage conflict, and establish consensus within diverse individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and show high emotional intelligence effectively.
  • Able to navigate the matrix and influence partners/other stakeholders.
  • Depth of experience and successful track record in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry with previous P&L responsibility and experience from different commercial functions, such as marketing and market access, proven ability for strategic thinking, and enterprise mindset.
  • Expertise in strategic planning and execution, commercial policies and practices, new product planning, portfolio management, and lifecycle management required.
  • Experience in HIV and marketing/market access preferred.
  • Ability to manage a frequent travel schedule (30% - 40%).
  • This is an office-based position located in Foster City, CA

The salary range for this position is: $249,645.00 - $323,070.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
