With 489 Guestrooms, 36000 sqft of Event space, a 26th-floor Concierge Lounge, SPIN Kitchen & Bar, and a Starbucks, crowned by our rotating rooftop Summit venue, we are the tallest hotel in the City and second-largest hotel overall.

Marriott Ottawa is preparing to begin a transformative, top-to-bottom renovation of all guestrooms, event space, restaurants and public areas, commencing in mid-2024, positioning the hotel to continue its storied legacy of hospitality excellence.

The Senior Manager, Catering & Events is responsible for effectively managing the day-to-day operation of the Event Management team through the execution of sales and service of all Banquet functions for the property. To ensure that the Marriott’s Standards for Service Excellence within the Event Management department are upheld at all times.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

Assigning of signed groups and managing work load of individual Event Managers, ensuring:

  • The transition between sales & events is seamless for the customer
  • Event Managers prepare and distribute all materials and correspondence relating to the successful operation of meetings, social catering, conferences, and room block only groups. This includes:
  • Pre and Post cons take place and are run per operating procedure
  • Post conference surveys go out and are followed up on by Event Mangers
  • Preparation & distribution of group resumes by Event Managers
  • Customers receive timely communication
  • Daily groups meeting occurs with operating departments and events
  • Working with Event Managers to identify up selling opportunities
  • Working with Event Managers to promote “Meetings Imagine” opportunities
  • CI/TY is kept up to date and accurate

Oversee and finalize food, beverage and meeting room set-up requirements.

Upgrade and upsell menus to achieve food and beverage goals.

Prepare short- and long-term forecasts and budget, and be aware as to where the hotel needs to fill business into open times. Be profit minded.

Practice and adhere to Event Management standard operating procedures. Ensure that all Associates within the department adhere to procedures as well.

Ensure that Event Managers are prompt and accurate in completion of assigned projects and finalize BEO’s.

Ensure that Event Manager establish and maintain customer contact at all functions.

Establish communication with the Executive and Banquet Chef, Banquet Manager, and Event Management staff.

Recommend and identify new ideas, methods and markets.

Promote energy conservation and aggressive hospitality programs along with achieving accident prevention goals.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR:

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years experience as an Event Manager (preferred)
  • University Degree or Diploma in Event Management

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in both official languages (English & French) (preferred)
  • Previous Customer Service or Guest Service Experience
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must have good understanding of group dynamics and making presentations; customer profiles.
  • Extensive food and wine knowledge
  • Must be able to design and create group menus
