Farm Direct Supply is a grower-owned, solutions-based supply chain management company. We grow, ship, and manage the production of fresh fruit and vegetables throughout the U.S., Mexico, and beyond. We proudly serve the Retail, Wholesale and Foodservice fresh fruit and vegetable industry and are seeking a skilled Tropical Salesperson to join our team!
Reporting to the General Manager, the Sales role is responsible for effectively managing and growing existing accounts and bringing new business to the company. This role executes a high degree of communication and coordination with various stakeholders in and out of the organization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of fresh produce, with specific experience with asparagus, a solid work ethic, a proven sales track record, along with the vision, drive and energy to contribute to the growth of our organization.
The successful candidate can work with minimal supervision and a high degree of coordination. They are resourceful and collaborative to align toward the strategic organization goals. They will successfully promote a customer-focused work ethic that correlates with the company’s core values and principles showcasing customer-focused, efficiency, respect, teamwork, accountability, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
  • Monitor key performance indicators for the Sales department that align with the overall Farm Direct Supply, LLC business strategy to provide the opportunity for benchmarking and course correcting when needed.
Sales
  • Sell and service existing customers with an emphasis on asparagus as well as an eye on the company’s complete product line.
  • Monitor and provide insight and recommendations for customer development and pursue new customer opportunities.
  • Create, implement, and analyze strategies to meet established goals. Accountable to overall company sales goals.
  • Plan and create sales budget for respective customers and long-term sales strategies.
  • Foster a data driven approach to the attainment of sales goals.
  • Communicate with team members to ensure smooth workflow for the team and success with our customers. Leverage team’s collective experience and strengths.
  • Empowered to develop long-term relationships with identified partners and customers.
  • Steward company performance with key customers to ensure maximum credibility is achieved in the marketplace.
  • Coordinate between various internal and external stakeholders regarding inbound and outbound product shipments.
  • Coordinate with staff on packing needs, daily orders, priorities, etc.
  • Anticipate business trends, stay on top of markets, use available information to make better informed business decisions.
  • Support with processing of trouble files, settlements, and aging receivables.
  • Collections for customer and payables to vendor.
  • Embrace and develop the company culture.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Business Development
  • Spearhead business development initiatives that are consistent with the company’s overall strategy and result in the acquisition of new business for the company.
  • Manage multiple business initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager on development of revenue generation and new strategic partnerships.
  • Monitor and provide insight and recommendations for customer development.
  • Create, implement, and analyze strategies to meet established goals.
Sourcing
  • Working in collaboration with the Sourcing Team, perform the functions of a commodity captain for assigned accounts (list provided separately).
  • Identify and establish rapport with growers and outside suppliers.
  • Stay on top of market trends, weather, pricing, and product availability to make better buying decisions as well as identify and act on buying opportunities.
  • Communicate between the Farm Direct LLC QC team and suppliers on quality and condition matters, including inspections, rejections, or credit requests.
Food Safety & Compliance
  • Coordinate with the compliance team on customer and supplier onboarding and re-boarding efforts, including procurement of food safety and other compliance records, and ensuring Farm Direct Supply responds to customer requests in a professional and timely fashion.
  • Support the compliance team with product traceback and recall efforts as needed to comply with customer, regulatory, and audit-related requirements.
  • Support the viability of the food safety and food security programs by participating in and supporting employee training programs as needed.
  • Personally, model and abide by food safety and food security SOPs and SSOPs.

  • Bilingual a plus but not required. Conversational Spanish preferred.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently with a sense of urgency.
  • Comfortable giving sales presentations to internal and external audiences.
  • Outstanding customer service skills and shares the company vision of being immersed in our customers success as a key component of our success.
  • Must possess an understanding of market conditions, trends, and market pricing.
  • Shows consistent professionalism and good judgment.
  • Proven track record of established sales, cold calls, and/or account management success.
  • Capable of profiling customers and generating leads.
  • Working knowledge of marketing orders and trade agreements, PACA regulations, etc. preferred. Working knowledge of produce grades and standards preferred.
  • Able and willing to adapt to changing business needs.
  • Ability to implement organizational and/or departmental goals that result in achievement and success through exceptional leadership skills, collaboration, creative thinking, maintaining focus and persistence, even under adversity, while maintaining the confidence and engagement of management and associates.
Technology
  • Excellent computer skills; experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Famous Software knowledge preferred.
  • Working knowledge of logistics tracking and expediting.
Other
  • Must be able to work in the U.S.
  • Familiarity and comprehension of remote work environments.
  • Willingness to travel without restrictions.
  • Able and willing to work extended hours, including some weekends.
  • Maintain a current, valid driver's license (commercial not required)
  • This position requires that you be able to work with a computer while sitting or standing, sometimes for extended periods.
  • Able to lift 15 lbs.
