SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Ag Account Manager will be the primary contact for current Midwest Laboratories, Inc. agriculture industry clients, which clients with testing needs of soil for plant-available nutrients, heavy metals, nematodes, biological respiration, and overall soil health as well as testing of plant tissue for nutrient uptake values. This individual will monitor client activity concerning analysis volume and project activity, and will maintain a close connection with Midwest Laboratories, Inc. client accounts and will work to resolve client concerns or issues.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Handle general customer inquiries regarding basic test packages, confirming reference methods, turn-around times, standard pricing, and sample size in a timely manner.
  • Help customers with written submission paperwork, MyLab Portal, or API platform to submit samples.
  • In depth knowledge in using MWL LIMS systems and departments specific to the industry supported.
  • In depth understanding of report setup and formatting. Able to help explain specific items within the report.
  • Ability to understand requirements for proofing and making necessary adjustments as needed and proof independently.
  • Tracking sample through the receiving and lab areas to check progress.
  • Authorize rerun and add-on work as approved.
  • Ability to communicate with internal teams and/or client regarding sample receipt including matrix suitability, insufficient or damaged samples, and/or delayed turn-around times.
  • Proficient with supply orders and shipping labels, invoicing formats, and billing cycle.
  • Create and maintain databases and client specific projects.
  • Work with respective departments to give quotes and/or renew projects, billing issues, technical inquiries, and non-routine accommodations for samples or methods.
  • May need to contact clients with respect to outstanding balance on accounts.
  • Assist or help facilitate conference calls and/or client visits.
  • Occasionally attend conferences, tradeshows, and/or tours.
  • Attend internal meetings as requested by supervisors.
  • Actively using QMS system to enter customer complaints and complete AM Review.

OTHER INDUSTRY SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Knowledge of the basic nutrients needed for plants to grow.
  • In depth understanding of the different aspects of the ag industry (growers, ag retailers, samplers, researchers).
  • In depth knowledge of role of land grant Universities and the USDA on the ag industry.
Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent job experience.
  • Minimum 3 years in an Account Management role and proficiency in all requirements
  • Background in Agricultural industry preferred

Soft skills:

  • Ability to learn new technology and systems quickly (Including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, LIMS, QMS).
  • Ability to prioritize daily workload and additional tasks as needed.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to problem-solve and think critically
  • Self-motivated, willing to learn
  • Ability to work as a team as well as individually
  • Strong communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment
  • Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the phone and in group setting
  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (6 or more hours)
  • Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgement and decisions
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 15 pounds
