Job Description:
The CSB Senior Portfolio Specialist is responsible for managing the credit underwriting and credit administration functions of a complex Specialty Banking product area or portfolio consistent with the TD Bank Group Risk Appetite Principles, including establishing the credit structure, Borrower Risk Ratings and Facility Risk Ratings for new and existing credit relationships. The CSB Senior Portfolio Specialist monitors loan covenants, loan delinquency, and completes annual review and renewal of existing credit relationships. The CSB Senior Portfolio Specialist works to achieve credit management objectives within the team. The CSB Senior Portfolio Specialist oversees Credit Specialists or Analysts assigned to provide support for specific transactions or processes.
Depth & Scope:
  • Personally manages a product portfolio which includes the most complex credits and capital credit structures
  • Ensures timely and consistent underwriting and closing of new and existing credit relationships within the business unit, consistent with the TD Bank Group Risk Appetite Principles and credit policies/underwriting guidelines
  • Ensures applications provide a high quality of risk assessment, credit structure, due diligence, and credit presentation and adhere to AIRB methodology and address TD Banks profitability objectives
  • Completes annual reviews and renewals of existing credit relationships in a timely manner and in accordance with Credit Policy in order to minimize credit risk
  • Reviews compliance with loan covenants within the product specialty portfolio
  • Ensures the managed product specialty portfolio is comprehensively monitored and controlled, adhering to and administered within approved guidelines and in line with established operating policies and procedures
  • Serves as a leader in ensuring the Business Plan is achieved by providing consistent and complete underwriting of new credit relationships in product specialty
  • Working in conjunction with the business line, helps structure creative and competitive solutions to meet customer and prospective needs, consistent with the TD Bank Group Risk Appetite Principles
  • Identifies and responds to changes in the macro-economic environment, industry issues and business environment, establishing action plans to address customer issues and priorities
  • Operates within the TD Bank Group Risk Appetite Principles and the applicable regulatory and compliance guidelines and procedures, including, but not limited to, Anti-Money Laundering, Privacy, Firewalls, and Systems and Information Security
  • Provides leadership and guidance in product specialty to the Credit Specialists and Credit Analysts
  • Develops value-added credit solutions in product specialty for our customers that are consistent with the TD Bank Group Risk Appetite Principles. Performs in depth credit analysis for which a majority of accounts consist of; Highly diverse portfolios at the highest complexity; Large pieces of a much bigger client portfolio that may include other institutions and input; Risk factors that create large variables to create decisions on portfolios
  • Performs in depth credit analysis in partnership with Relationship Manager on potential and existing customers to determine alignment with TD Bank products/structure TD Credit Risk Appetite and credit policies/underwriting guidelines
  • Partners with the Relationship Manager on potential structure proposals that are in alignment with TD Bank products/structure, TD Credit Risk Appetite and credit policies/underwriting guidelines
  • Manages the timely approval, documentation preparation and negotiation, and closing of new and existing transactions in product specialty
  • Be knowledgeable of and operate within the applicable regulatory and compliance guidelines/policies & procedures (including but not limited to: AML, Privacy, Firewalls, Systems & Information Security, FCAC, etc.) and ensures that all staff complete required compliance attestations/training within required timelines
  • Interprets and applies TDs risk management strategy (both credit and operational)
  • Understands changing market conditions and remain knowledgeable of relevant industry issues and impact on product specialty
  • Responsible for managing aspects of the customer relationship in product specialty including, but not limited to, reviewing reports and delinquencies, sign off of covenant compliance forms and determining strategy if failures occur, completing monthly monitoring; Oversees Credit Analysts that will provide support in these responsibilities

Education & Experience:
  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience
  • 10 years' experience in related work experience
  • Strong credit underwriting and administration skills
  • Ability to identify and mitigate risk
  • Solid understanding of value-add credit structuring in a commercial banking environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with understanding of business acumen
