Job Description

SUMMARY

The mission of the Fresno/Clovis Convention and Visitors Bureau (dba Visit Fresno County), a destination marketing organization, is to promote the Fresno/Clovis region to all travel markets. In partnership with the hospitality industry, Visit Fresno County generates increased visitor spending, local tax receipts and job development.

Under the direction of the Director of Sales, the Sports Sales Manager will perform sales related duties to solicit and book sports and athletic events for the destination. The Sports Sales Manager will collaborate with the Director of Sales to build an expanded book of sports business for the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following):

· Identify potential sports events that could be held in Fresno/Clovis.

· Develop qualified sales leads for the purpose of securing sports business.

· Monitor and evaluate competitor destinations’ clients, venues and development.

· With oversight from the Director of Sales, seeks opportunities to be involved in boards/committees within the community and tourism industry

· Engage in comprehensive client account management with regular communication for the purposes of event development.

· Coordinate client site visits and FAM trips when applicable.

· Responsible for prospecting new business in the sports market.

· Develops and fosters relationships with sports event organizers/planners to create new business and sustain existing business.

· Maintains communication and good rapport with lodging partners.

· Collaborate with marketing team to develop targeted, effective sports marketing campaigns and compelling sports sales tools.

· Research and identify potential sports events that can be hosted in Fresno/Clovis.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not involve any supervisory responsibilities, but is heavily reliant on cooperative engagement with other members of the Sales Department and with the other departments in the organization.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:

· General office operations, policies and procedures

· Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

· Fresno/Clovis sports scene

· Youth and collegiate sports, especially in the Central Valley and in competitor markets

· Fresno & Clovis venues, attractions, lodging and entertainment

· Sales principles and practices

Ability to:

· Attend sports related tradeshows and meetings to promote Visit Fresno County to the sports market with appropriate and timely follow up.

· Develop sales strategies based on data and input from Director of Sales.

· Establish strong relationships with key community sports partners and decision makers of sports organizations, leagues, conferences and associations.

· Provide clear, concise communications (verbal and written) in a timely fashion.

· Work well with a team and independently when necessary.

· Demonstrate strong organizational skills and be able to prioritize tasks in a logical manner.

· Consistently display high levels of professionalism

License or Certificate:

Possession of a valid California driver’s license and the ability to be provide proof of automobile insurance.

Willingness to attain industry-related certifications at the organization’s expense when deemed necessary.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION GUIDELINES

· Experience in sales, hospitality, sports management and/or sports marketing

· Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience preferred

· Familiarity using a sales CRM

· Ability to work effectively with a team

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described as high volume and fast paced. Employee must have the ability to work with a diverse population and in a standard office environment. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Occasional changes to the standard work day may be required for certain events. The majority of work involved in this position takes place in the office; however, the employee should expect to spend approximately 20-30% of their time outside of the office for specific activities. Employee must have the willingness to travel both locally and nationally for conferences, trade shows and other events.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $68,640.00 per year

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
