Summary
Underwrites and rates the strategic and most complex employer groups including fully insured, self-funded (ASO) and stop loss underwriting. Analyzes data to determine financial requirements for prospective and renewal business. Performs complex analysis with little supervision. Offers strategic underwriting consulting to marketing, broker and/or group on high profile prospective and renewal groups.

Description

Consultant for field sales and account manager for employer groups. Provides training and support to account management on rating principals and methodology. Serves as resource presenting underwriting philosophy supporting rate development of complex fully insured, self -funded and stop loss clients. Analyze employer groups, identify concerns, and offer solutions.
Analyze large group rates for RFP. Evaluate data to determine financial requirements for prospective and renewal business. Performs complex analysis with little supervision.
Trains and advises less experienced Underwriters.
Serves as a liaison to other departments concerning underwriting issues.
Required Education Level and Degree Type: Bachelor's Degree
Required Degree Equivalency: High School Diploma with 10 years job-related work experience or 10 years combined college courses and job-related experience.
Required Work Experience: 8 years of underwriting experience
Required Skills and Abilities: Strong analytical, decision-making, communications, time management, and customer service skills. Advanced math skills. Good judgment. Proficient spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion. Extensive knowledge of underwriting/risk principles and their application.
Required Software and Other Tools: Microsoft Office.
Preferred Education Level and Degree Type: Bachelor's degree-Accounting, Finance, Business, Healthcare Administration, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field
Preferred Specialized Training: Knowledge of underwriting principles and rating methodologies. Insurance course work in FLMI and HIAA.
Preferred Work Experience: 10 Years-underwriting experience.
Preferred Software and Other Tools: Knowledge of spreadsheet and database software.
Preferred Licenses and Certificates: Certified Insurance Service Representative
Work Environment: Typical office environment.
