Title: Automation Uptime Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

This position supports the reliability and performance of existing and new automation technology within Ryder’s Continuous Improvement culture across the all Business Unit’s/Vertical’s. This role will drive change through focused analysis of automation performance in order to achieve higher levels of OEE and safety and growth each and every day through the use of warehouse automation and technology. This position supports all business verticals and reports to the Automation Director.

This influential position will interface with employees at all levels and various functions / departments across the business and within a facility. This position supports all business verticals and reports to the Automation Director. This individual must possess a willingness and desire to work directly with his/her cross-functional peers and their direct reports in the business units to define and set a strategy for engineering efforts and automation activities for new and existing operations. The role must be able to communicate effectively to all levels team members from site staff, as well as executive team members.

This position will be responsible for leading the effort in supporting, evaluating, piloting current and new warehouse automation technologies that will help differentiate Ryder by driving efficiencies, grow existing and win new business. Work directly with internal operational, solution design, continuous improvement, information technology, product owners and cross-functional stakeholders to support the automation uptime and reliability in the Ryder network. Consult with internal and external contacts to quickly demonstrate the value and feasibility of warehouse automation capabilities to create a competitive differentiator. Work directly with the customer and business owners to identify new ideas and collaborate across verticals, regions, and functional areas to evaluate, pilot, and implement warehouse automation solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES / JOB FUNCTIONS

20% - Support existing Ryder Automation warehouse technologies by partnering with onsite maintenance, Ryder IT, and other resources to ensure Automation performance KPIs are maintained. t 20% - Develop advanced competency in wide range of data analytics and scorecarding to trend system/equipment performance. Leverage data analytics to guide automation process improvement initiatives and cost saving opportunities with site operation and CI team. 20% - Work directly with internal operational, solution design, continuous improvement, information technology, product owners and cross-functional stakeholders to identify, select & deploy new warehouse automation technology in existing operations and in support of new business 10% - Drives the Discovery Process through quickly assessing warehouse automation technologies by understanding how these address business needs, deliver significant value and can be adopted by the business. Monitors industry, technology and business trends to identify opportunities, threats and benchmarks competitive products to identify sources of competitive advantage or areas of focus. The Automation Engineer will continually investigate new technology opportunities that become available in the market to ensure that Ryder is utilizing the highest value solutions offered. 15% - Engages and helps manage the warehouse automation institutional customer success partner relationships to support current business and drive ongoing efficiencies. 15% - Provide formal and informal training, coaching, mentoring as an Automation SME to Ryder associates.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops pilot activities and the hypothesis to be tested. Defines the proof of concept, formalizes the team, identifies a pilot location, obtains approvals, evaluates vendors and determines a pilot timeline. Deploys acceptable pilots to quickly evaluate business fit & operational feasibility. These results will help feed the solution design team to include proven technologies into new business proposals. Evaluate, pilot and deploy new warehouse automation technologies

May lead a small team (1-3) of automation engineering professionals, make employment decisions (coach and development) and performance management. Manages multiple and complex Supply Chain projects. Regularly interacts with Senior Management and/or customer.

Validation of new technology and automation will be supported by the Automation Engineer through Proof of Concept implementations. These POC implementations will be driven by the automation team, as they will also coordinate the value-justification of the project with Senior Management and the cross-functional team involved.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education (Required)

Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field of study

Experience (Required)

1 years or more experience in warehouse automation, material handling technologies, industrial engineering or warehouse systems integration. 2 or more years demonstrated experience in warehouse automation

(Required) - Act as a change agent in adopting warehouse automation technologies to deliver significant operational improvement across the organization and to coach business owners and functional leads in the deployment of these new technologies

(Required) - Demonstrated success in assessing, developing and deploying new offerings or incremental enhancement

(Preferred) – Experience with trouble-shooting automation controls systems

Knowledge

(Required – Advanced) - Knowledge of Warehouse Management operations, data analytics, Industrial Engineering, warehouse types (ambient, temp control) and Lean methods

(Required – Intermediate) -Automation, Management Consulting, Physical & Process Robotic experience

(Required – Intermediate) - Knowledge of all available material handling equipment and automation types such as: forklift applications, racking designs, packaging devices and automation design

(Required – Intermediate) - Warehouse Design Tools ie; CAD, slotting, MOST, simulation, WMS, Labor Mgt. Data Visualization Software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) a plus

(Required – Intermediate) – Industrial or Mechanical Engineering with warehouse operational knowledge

(Required – Intermediate) – Experienced in financial business case analysis to help support targeted return on investment. M&A or past business transaction experience is a plus
