Job Description

Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Hospital Relations Manager to join our dynamic Medical Laboratory & Stem Cell Services team.


Within the Medical Laboratory and Stem Cell Services team, the Medical services and Hospital relations team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services in all areas of hospital account management such as sharing disposition and inventory data, best practices, and NAC endorsed recommendations to optimize utilization and improve patient outcomes. The Hospital Relations team also gather and analyze hospital customer demand intelligence to help optimize collections targets.


In this role, you will be responsible for managing the hospital liaison team, in addition to managing their own account region, influencing the optimization of inventory across the value chain, sharing business intelligence between CBS and hospitals, and supporting the evolution of hospital relationships. In partnership with the CBS Directors, Managers, Specialists, and others as required, you will develop key relationships with hospital representatives and members of the healthcare community. You will foster a positive image and reputation of Canadian Blood Services within the health care sector.

  • Leveraging your ability to lead and work collaboratively across a diverse team, you will manage and mentor departmental staff and lead the team in ensuring activities are aligned with performance measures and overall corporate goals and objectives.
  • Utilizing your strong organizational and prioritization skills, you will ensure hospital liaison activities are aligned to the execution of the strategies of business lines and provide monthly reporting and activities that support the strategies of business lines.
  • Drawing on your continuous growth mindset and strong analytical skills, you will perform environmental scans on demand for plasma protein and related products and transfusable products and report on hospital feedback data to drive internal service improvement initiatives.
  • As a relationship architect for CBS, you will build and manage external relationships with hospitals and other key stakeholders as well as the internal relationships required to support them.
  • Using your excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with key subject matter experts, you will develop and coordinate opportunities for CBS hospitals and stakeholders to effectively share information and identify opportunities to improve services, build relationship and expand partnerships.
  • Concentrating on your excellent communication and ability to deliver effective presentations, you will provide educational background, training, and materials to support and enhance partnerships.
  • You will be expected to encourage active hospital participation in new product development as part of CBS Research and Development program.
  • Focusing on your demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills, you will develop compelling solutions to customer issues and tap into wider resources and skills within CBS to develop customer focused solutions.
  • Harnessing your knowledge and expertise, you will promote and raise awareness of CBS business continuity plans and collaborate with stakeholders in support of their business continuity plans.
  • You will perform other relates duties as required.


Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary level education in Health Sciences.
  • At least seven years of progressive experience including experience in stakeholder relationships.
  • A minimum of 3 years in a supervisory/managerial capacity.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lead at all levels.
  • Strong communication skills in English. Bilingualism is required in certain jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrated report and technical writing skills.
  • Experience in customer service and account management would be an advantage.
  • Experience working in a regulated, GMP environment would be an advantage.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

  • Average travel frequency is estimated weekly for this role.
