ROLE SUMMARY:

Reporting to the SVP PBM Account Management, the Express Scripts PBM Medical Managing Director serves as strategic clinical account visionary, constructing clinical information or opinion based on experience that is strategically relevant to Express Scripts’ key accounts and business. This executive liaison drives the development of clinical, and health outcomes related content to meet brand/strategic account needs for both existing and new business opportunities. Responsible for driving strategic thinking and clinical business acumen across multiple client engagements, specifically: discovering new paths for growth by uncovering and developing new segments, products, and clinical solutions for Express Scripts.

The Express Scripts PBM Medical Managing Director will also play a critical role helping to shape and guide the future growth and development of the PBM through active engagement with pharma as well as clients in support of the PBM sales and account management organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strategic Clinical Account Visionary
    • Serves as executive liaison to convey external account and market perspective to key internal product partners to connect and deliver differentiating strategy in clinical solution development and delivery across all business markets.
    • Lead the clinical community for all Sales & Account Management divisions. Support business needs of key stakeholders (e.g., clinical account teams/CAEs, Sales) throughout the organization, to provide guidance, education, thought leadership and subject matter expertise related to clinical initiatives across the enterprise.
  • Business and Prospect Development
    • Develop effective relationships with clients’ clinical teams and other relevant client personnel.
    • Assists in building key strategic account relationships in conjunction with Sales, Product, and Account teams.
    • As primary SAM clinical executive visits and interacts with each client and its management team regarding the strategic direction of the client and its clinical needs. Serve as a client account team partner with Sales and CSTs in aligning Express Scripts’ services for innovative solutions to support clients’ business goals and objectives.
    • Guide the process to provide strategic clinical and operational input to the proposal, finalist presentation(s) and operational execution process in order to improve the win rate for the business.
    • Ensure that innovative solutions, quality, message integrity and clinical content are written into proposal and clearly articulated in finalist client presentations. Actively contribute to the development and delivery of finalist presentation(s) to improve the win rate for the business.
    • Serves as Express Scripts representative at external clinical/ Therapeutic and industry meetings.
  • Innovation and Planning related to Express Scripts’ Strategic Sales Approach
    • Provide clinical strategic input and leadership to Express Script’s proactive efforts to identify important new project opportunities and clinical innovations.
    • Proactively challenges strategies and directions not aligned with current clinical practice; helps identify barriers, positioning, and strategies from a medical/clinical perspective.
  • Partner with cross-functional senior leaders and the clinical market and client strategy organization to ensure effective clinical solutions and strategies are supported within the internal enterprise; meeting SLAS, key metrics and client performance guarantees. Partner with client services senior leadership to ensure successful implementation of new clients, products and initiatives.
    • This role will also hold executive strategic relationships with the clients; working with Chief Pharmacy Officer’s, Chief Clinical Officers and P&L owners, as well as other key client executive leaders who own formulary and benefit design.
    • This individual will need an incredible degree of influence, vision and executive command to drive transformation not only throughout the PBM organization, but also throughout Evernorth and the broader enterprise to demonstrate the clinical needs of our clients.

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) required
  • 10+ years of clinical experience or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background (preferred to have pharmacy management experience in a clinically-oriented pharmacy benefits management, managed care, hospital, retail or industry setting)
  • Must have the experience, training, and expertise to provide clinical input and inform strategy across a broad range of therapeutic categories
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical services industry and/or pharmaceutical marketing desired
  • Demonstrated initiative with proven ability to develop and lead business strategies in support of major organizational and market initiatives, work cross-functionally with various departments and set priorities.
  • Demonstrated results in being able to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into both a short-term and long-term organizational plan.
  • An inspirational, compelling leader who is capable of communicating the vision to external and internal constituents; and commanding respect and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with executive members of client organizations.
  • Enterprise thinker with proven ability to influence across a matrix environment. Ability to develop strong relationships across all levels of the organization, and with external partners.
  • Strong persuasion skills and effective communicator; ability to create and communicate a compelling vision internally and externally.
  • Enjoys working hard and looks for challenges; able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available; not afraid to take charge of a situation; can overcome resistance to leadership and take unpopular stands when necessary
  • Account centric mindset with the ability to travel 25-50%

This role requires 25-50% of travel.
