We’re looking for a Senior Mid-Market P&C Broker that will be responsible for marketing new and renewal business, handling all aspects of the placements from initial market selection through policy delivery to client. The Senior Broker typically focuses on the larger and more difficult placements within the Mid-Market Team, while serving in a leadership capacity to mentor and develop staff while cultivating strong insurer and insurer-client-broker relationships.


What You’ll Do

  • Effectively negotiate with insurance carriers demonstrating an unmistakable command of the risk; drive financial and non-financial outcomes that support organic revenue development and retention, seize upon opportunities to creatively upsell and cross-sell, leading to greater client product density and expanded account margin
  • Work in partnership with Account Executives and Account Managers in Ontario to develop coverage strategy and marketing initiatives for remarketing and prospective business including cross-sell and up-sell initiatives and effectively closes coverage gaps or deficiencies
  • Occasionally attend client meetings as a part of the team to strengthen and hone client communication and presentation skills
  • Collaborate with account management team and client to ensure complete, timely and highly differentiated submissions are presented to markets, respond to carrier queries, compile carrier quote proposals and critically and comparatively analyze each, and present prospects or clients with a clear summary of the marketing process, and a proposal with recommendations
  • Prepare coverage comparisons, diagnostics, consolidated coverage/policy analyses, letters and reports under the direction of the Senior Broker or SVP, Broking
  • Develop productive business relationships with key insurance underwriters and local NFP account management teams
  • Cultivate a thorough understanding of markets to better assist the broking team
  • Build strong, abiding, trustful and resilient relationships with carrier and wholesale partners
  • Maintain accurate client and policy information in NFP’s Epic agency management system
  • Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of insurance marketplace, products and services
  • Attend industry events and/or industry sessions from time to time

What You Bring

  • Provincial P&C License required or obtained within 90 days of employment
  • Typically, more than 7 years of insurance industry and product line experience; specialized industry experience is an asset
  • Sound understanding of broker operating fundamentals and financials
  • Excellent negotiation skills – ability to adjust approach to effectively drive optimal outcomes depending on different personalities
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to adjust to changing workload, work complexity and priorities
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a key team member and mentor to junior team members
  • Self-motivated and determined with positive attitude and sense of urgency
  • Strong attention to detail with strong analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative
  • Proven technical competency and creativity demonstrating excellence in developing and delivering innovative property and casualty solutions
  • Confident, poised and interactive – when client-facing communicates effectively, demonstrates emotional intelligence, and understands how to tailor responses in a variety of dynamic situations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with Epic (agency management system) a plus
